- Yes. WHS Regulation requires all asbestos containing materials must be removed before demolition to avoid breathing in the dangerous fibres. A fully licensed asbestos assessor must always carry out air monitoring needs upon demolition, so you can also get a clearance certificate once the job is done.
- How long does asbestos stay in the air if disturbed?
- Asbestos fibres can stay in the air for 48 to 72 hours. Since they are very light, they can float for long periods of time especially in a room with constant air currents.
- How do you clean after asbestos removal?
- Avoid activities that will cause the fibres to stay in the air such as vacuuming or sweeping. Instead, you can wet the area, mop and wipe up the dust or use a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum approved for use with asbestos fibres. Make sure to confirm with a licensed asbestos assessor if your property is good to occupy again after asbestos removal.
